My daughter has Type 1 diabetes, so I've been following this Ozempic story. I was absolutely dumbfounded that this was allowed to impact the supply of this drug to people who REALLY need it - i.e. diabetics. I was also interested because the company that produces this drug is the same one that produces the insulin my daughter needs to stay alive.
And yes, that Bari Weiss story was extremely helpful in understanding the different thought processes that go on with this.

Great article Chris. An overweight relative was hellbent on trying this drug recently. I had never heard of it as I don’t have TV. This relative also takes SSRIs for severe anxiety. (Mertazapine was added to her regime last year when her controlled anxiety severely increased. The mertazapine caused her to put on 45 lbs in just a few months.) I can’t imagine what this drug would have done to her anxiety! And I was terrified of side effects just because it is so new. Another relative and I were able to talk her out of taking it based on the thyroid cancer risk. She is now in the process of very slowly weaning off of the mertazapine that was added to her regime. She has started following a group on line who have also gained huge amounts of weight when put on the same drug. She was never told by her doctor that weight gain goes hand in hand with mertazapine. I wish there were more doctors out there who would advise their patients on the side effects of drugs. Thankyou for this informative article. I will be sharing this information for sure.
I didn't get into it in the article, but many psychiatric meds cause weight gain. It's not well understood why, but perhaps because they do the opposite of what Ozempic does. By increasing serotonin in the brain, the psych meds may stimulate appetite. I have seen people gain up to 100lbs in the most extreme cases. It should be something that doctors warn about so patients can decide if it's worth trying the meds in the first place, and if so watch for weight gain or try to mitigate against it. Thanks for the comment!
One friend, after the Ozempic injections for several months, had pancreatitis and a necrotic gallbladder, which was removed. She never had issues until taking Ozempic. (Shockingly, this friend is so very anti mRNA and says that big pharma is corrupt, yet she trusts them with the injections?? I don't get it!) Another friend is constantly throwing up. Also says she is light headed all the time. That sounds like fun! Not!
Never heard of this drug before reading your article, probably because I haven’t had a TV since 1990. What a nightmarish world. If you don’t mind sharing, I’m curious to know which alternative search engine you use?
Silly Chris. Have you been living in a cave! It stands for Wombat-and-Feral-Pig-Buffet. It's the latest iteration of the paleo diet so I'm given to understand.
Went out for lunch with a friend on Wegovy who after eating one bite of tuna melt and two french fries announced herself full. She wondered aloud how it was possible that I could be slim and eat a WHOLE sandwich. I pointed out that I do lead an active life. She replied that sticking a needle into her stomach and paying 130$ per week was easier all the while complaining about sore joints, sore skin, tiredness and headaches.
At this point, anything pushed hard by big pharma should be treated like a deadly poisonous snake until proven otherwise.
Totally agree, add in the generics too.
Thanks for the info, and particularly thanks for the wisdom of being a Doc who does not use their patients as test subjects -wise!
Informative and insightful. Candid honesty in these matters is not rare, it is unheard of. Thank you.

Thanks for putting this out there.
My son was put on it for Type 2, had aweful side effects, do your home work.
We're not even considering it for our daughter. All she needs is insulin. I was just interested in it because I recognized the name of the company.
SMART DAD.
Excellent read, great info. Thanks for writing this.
Thanks for this information. Very informative!
Love you people. This completely validates my raw anger at the allowances given to big pharma in our dystopic existence.

Another great read, and highly informative. Cross-posting now.

Wow! That's definitely not positive.

QWANT or Brave are decent. Check out datahound.net for some great info.
Thank you.
Why can’t you prescribe a WFPB diet?
Sorry that's an AINFW (Acronym I'm Not Familiar With) :-)
Will need more explanation.

Cool! That's definitely new to me.
