Now, regarding the gender ideology that continues to permeate our society, and subjects children to so-called “affirmative care” that causes irreversible damage, I’m still outraged. Just a couple of weeks ago, I attended the International Congress of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Hamburg, Germany. I was heartened to see many symposia and lectures on evidence-based gender medicine, spearheaded by the excellent US-based Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (segm.org).
I spoke with many presenters and participants from around the world about the current state of this field. I even attended the keynote by Dr. Hilary Cass — the legendary paediatrician whose report fundamentally changed the UK’s approach, moving away from the flawed, ideology-driven WPATH standards of care. As you noted in your article, many other countries have followed suit.
Unfortunately, in Canada, spurred on by the Canadian Paediatric Society’s Position Statement, we’re still clinging to the affirmative care model promoted by WPATH. I recently learned that the CPS statement has been strongly criticized by a group of Canadian physicians, yet their response was essentially to dismiss the evidence and say no update was needed. They simply ignored anything that didn’t align with their pre-existing views.

Thanks for this comment Oleg. Yes I had read that Quillette piece. Canada is sadly such an outlier now, even compared to other countries that are massively woke.
When we held our Free Speech in Medicine Conference, I was told by DoctorsNS that they couldn't put it on their calendar or distribute a notice because "we don't advertise for activist groups or groups with a particular political agenda" or something close to that (I kept the emails).
That same month, I had received an email from them advertising a "learning opportunity" on "how to prescribe gender-affirming hormones". I clicked the link and in the find print, the event was sponsored and supported by a transgender activism group. Apparently that wasn't an "activist" group and its agenda was not "political".
It is a great step backwards that mainstream orgs like the CPS have now cemented the mindset that if you are a little boy and like skipping rope (like I did) you must actually be a girl, and if you are a little girl and hate dresses and prefer getting muddy and catching frogs (like Julie did) then you must be a boy. Strange times when doctors think this view is "progressive".
Yes, Chris, I hear you. The core mission of SEGM is to promote rigorous research and open, rational discussion of the evidence—without the selective cherry-picking that has become characteristic of WPATH’s approach.
Moreover, some of the clinicians and therapists affiliated with SEGM who work with children and adolescents experiencing gender confusion are themselves members of the LGBT community. Yet they are still accused of being transphobic and practicing conversion therapy—which couldn’t be further from the truth. Go figure.
I was so heartened to see SEGM founded a few years ago, and so glad to see that they are more and more often becoming the go-to scientific advisory group for governments and groups in many areas, with WPATH more often relegated to the dustbin of history.
I think the same about our print media, National Post is one of the last bastions of conservative thought, but the quality has deteriorated since we lost Rex Murphy and Christie Blatchford. The socialists have taken over the institutions like JK to grade 12 and journalism schools, hence the general illiteracy of our society. Keep up the good fight Pairodocs and maybe we win back enough ground with non mainstream media like X, podcasts, and Substack.

There is so much doublethink in this country. I am not sure if we can ever return to some form of 'normal'. I am Woman - Hear Me Roar".
